Today’s Group Member Launches Brand New Store Formats

03/12/2009

The Today’s Group has recently unveiled the first three of its new ‘next generation’ stores which provide its wholesalers’ retail customers with a modern, fresh and contemporary fascia option to help maintain its prominence within the market place. All of the stores are customers of Northern Ireland-based Today’s Group member, Savage & Whitten.

The stores’ new fascias comprise the new Today’s Group logo and the store’s name or location, with fresh vibrant graphics. The redesign of the stores incorporates two new formats: Today’s Local and Today’s Extra. The Local format is ideal for those stores located in urban areas providing essential convenience and top-up shopping, offering their customers a wide range of products, such as household groceries, fresh produce and news and magazines. The Extra stores are generally larger and offer a more extensive range of products and services to their customers such as a Post Office, food-to-go and Lottery and in some instances fuel. In general Extra fascia stores will also be fitted to a higher level of investment than Local stores.

The Extra fascia features a light coloured background with Today’s lettering in red and the Extra highlighted in yellow. The Local fascia is reversed with a red background and light coloured Today’s lettering, which distinguishes between the two store types. The new fascia options are available to retailers through Today’s Group wholesale members who operate the Today’s Retail Club.

The stores’ interiors are bright, fresh and contemporary and have proved very popular with regular shoppers and feature the new corporate strap line, ‘What a difference Today’s make’.

Bill Laird, managing director of the Today’s Group, said, “The stores are fantastic ambassadors for our new generation fascias. The development of Today’s Extra and Local are key elements of our future retail strategy. We have already been contacted by many members making enquiries about the new look and interested in becoming part of our Retail Club.”

Roger McMahon, owner of the three stores, said, “We are delighted with the new store format, it looks fantastic and has been finished to a high standard throughout. We have experienced significant sales increases in all of the stores since the re-brand and we look forward to working closely with Savage & Whitten and the Today’s Group in the future to develop the stores even further.”
