Nisa’s first Store of the Future opens in Maylandsea

Nisa’s ‘Store of the Future’ hit the streets on Friday November 28th with the launch of a stunning new 3,000sq.ft. store by longstanding member Factorvouch Ltd. Owned by business partners David Nice and Paul Miller, who developed the new build store in Maylandsea, Essex with the Nisa store development team, it is the first Nisa member store to take the new format. The Maylandsea store was officially opened to the media on Tuesday 9th December with the help of a Patrick Stewart lookalike, in keeping with the store of the future theme.

The redesign sees striking new logos and display artwork instore and gives customers a pleasant shopping environment. Everything the customer comes into contact with has been considered and as a result Nisa has come up with a more approachable, brighter, friendlier and more contemporary environment which is easier and more intuitive to navigate and shop.

Softer, low energy lighting and a paler tone of flooring is located in the back part of the store, where general groceries and household products are displayed, as this is recommended for a calmer, browsing experience

At the front, where darker floors give less glare from the brighter store lighting, customers have quick and easy access to items such as newspapers, confectionery, snacks, milk, food to go and alcohol, without having to get tangled up with other customers buying a weekly shop.

The store offers a wide range of food-to-go products such as sandwiches and wraps, along with a Post Office –a great facility in the current climate of closure and an essential service for the local community in Maylandsea – as well as a free to-use ATM machine, a PayPoint service and a Lottery counter. The store has given a third of its selling space to the impulse concept and 25% to chilled food and drink. It is also using the launch of the store to try a number of new ideas, which include low cost initiatives such as displaying single apples and bananas close to the checkouts to encourage healthy impulse purchases.

David Nice, managing director of the store commented, “This new store will be great for the local community, it is bright and fresh and will be one of Nisa’s flagship stores. The new store design will appeal to today’s busy customers and has been designed with each type of shopper in mind – including those wanting a quick pick-up ‘daily need’ purchase in the front of store, or a deeper ‘food for later’ shop further back. We are really proud of what we have developed here for the local community and we hope that they like it as much as we do.”

Nisa-Today’s Group Symbol director John Heagney added: “There is a consistent visual narrative running through the store from the exterior to the shelf ticket barkers. As more outlets take on this new package, customers will immediately be aware that they are in a Nisa store. It is not just about benefiting from all of Nisa’s promotions and careful ranging, but about being recognised by their customers as being part of a large, professional retail operation.”
