Nisa-Today’s appoints new local sourcing manager

14/11/2007

Nisa-Today’s has appointed Steve Hodson to the position of Local Sourcing Manager, with a remit to build business relationships with local suppliers for Nisa Today’s in order to supplement its existing major brands through Central Distribution.

The nature of the role will be to quickly develop a network of local suppliers and advise the group’s members of the details of the geographical area that each supplier can deliver to, what their product ranges are and the terms on which they can trade. The details will be available both via internet and in hard copy with all goods being centrally invoiced via Nisa Central Office.

“We feel that demand for local food is a long term customer trend and not just a passing phase”, said John Sharpe, managing director of Central Distribution Trading & Logistics. “We therefore decided to create the new role within Nisa of local sourcing manager. I’m delighted that Steve is on board and look forward to seeing the benefits of his appointment.”

Steve Hodson will take up the new role from January 2008. The move sees him transfer from the Today’s Group where he has worked for the last seven years as trading controller for grocery.

Following his long service with Today’s, Steve is delighted to have the opportunity to experience life at Nisa, he commented: “More than ever before, people are taking notice of where their food comes from, what goes into its production and the journey it takes to end up on their plates. We have a responsibility to our customers and to the wider community to ensure we deliver products that are of the highest quality and by supporting local producers we are helping local economies.

“The social and economic importance of locally sourced products is well recognised and I am very much looking forward to developing new and exciting opportunities for Nisa-Today’s, its members and the communities in which they live and work.”
