16/02/2009

The Today's Group has announced its best trading figures since 2003, having already shown growth for the past five years, despite the economic downturn.

Following a successful year of promotional marketing around the group’s 21st Birthday celebrations and the continued development of its trading initiatives and Retail Club, the Today’s Group reported that it had recorded an overall success of +12.7% value and +9.1% volume year-on-year for 2008.

The licensed category continued to perform particularly strong trading up +15.84% value and +10.43% volume, while general grocery also did well at +12.47% value and +5.64% volume. The impulse category demonstrated positive growth with figures of +8.16% value and +2.75% volume. In addition grocery non-foods showed the largest volume increase of +17.1%, with +8.6% value.

“The end of year results for the Today’s Group are fantastic and the best we’ve seen in five years,” said Nick Barker, Today’s Group trading director. “There has been strong, sustained growth across all of the categories and there are two main factors contributing to this. Our Birthday celebrations this year prompted strong sales, but perhaps most importantly, our overall trading package continues to be very robust and this helps drive the business. Our Retail Club experienced record growth in 2008, and initiatives such as our Plan for Profit scheme, which has continued to evolve since its launch last year, provide added benefits for our members.”

Today’s Group managing director, Rod Hunt added: “The success we’ve experienced is another great example of the superb working relationship our members have with the Today’s Group trading team. These excellent figures are testament to the high level of member support we receive.”
