Nisa Recruits Costcutter Member and Hits 300 Store of the Future Conversions

06/07/2010

Former Costcutter retailer Mike Thompson’s Gosforth store has become Nisa’s 300th to convert to the Store of the Future fascia as he brings his entire store portfolio to the Nisa Symbol Group.

The seven stores, five former Costcutter and two Thresher stores, are all located within an eight mile radius of Newcastle. They are all in the process of being converted to the Nisa Local fascia and will offer an extensive range of products and services including: food to go products such as sandwiches, savoury snacks and crisps as well as a range of chilled and frozen foods, fresh fruit & vegetables, news and magazines, alcohol and tobacco. There is a plan to introduce coffee machines to all of its stores to increase the beverage and food to go offer. The National Lottery is also available in five of the stores.

John Heagney, Group Symbol director, commented, “Attracting high quality retailers like Mike Thompson to the Nisa Symbol Group is testament to the strength of our package - both in concept and delivery. It's the fastest growing area of our business and we are steaming towards our target of 500 Store of the Future stores by the end of March 2011 and 815 overall in the Symbol Group.”

Mike Thompson added: “The move to Nisa was purely a commercial decision. I felt that Nisa was able to help my business to progress within the competitive market place. The store conversions are making a significant difference to our business and will allow for a more pleasurable shopping experience for customers.”

John Heagney concluded: “The turnover of the Symbol Group is excellent, we are achieving +7.62% like-for-like sales with an overall total of 20.26%, which is tremendous in the current economic climate. The Nisa Symbol Group is going from strength to strength.”
