Retail Council Appoints New Chairman and Deputy Chairman

14/06/2010

Nisa’s Retail Council has recently voted Leo Gillen, who owns five stores in and around Hartlepool, to its Chairman and Dal Singh, who runs a Nisa Local in Halifax, to deputy Chairman.

Former Chairman David Sands, chief executive officer at David Sands Ltd, and former deputy Chairman Vim Odedra, owner of a Nisa store in Canvey Island, both stood for re-election after two years.

The appointment of the new Chairman and deputy Chairman comes after the council’s change in May which saw Justin Smart retire from the Wales and South region and Ian Hunt being elected in his place.

The council discusses, debates, develops and refines retail trading matters, policies and strategies, passing on recommendations to the Nisa-Today’s Holdings Board where necessary. The council also acts as a vehicle for consultation with both the company executives and regional committees on strategies affecting Nisa retail members.

The Retail Council holds meetings four times per year, which Leo will chair, and it is responsible for the operation and chairing of Regional Member Councils in their respective geographical areas.

Neil Turton commented: “David did a fantastic job chairing the Retail Council and we have to thank him for his hard work. We’re looking forward to working more closely with Leo and Dal to ensure that the lines of communications remain open between members, Holdings Board directors and Members Support executives to create more benefits for members.”
