Nisa-Today’s Red Orange members wins prestigious award

Nisa-Today’s Red Orange member, Nigel Dowdney and his wife Shaz, have been awarded the title of Community Hero at the ACS Summit, which was held at Birmingham Hilton Metropole on Thursday 24th April 2008.
Nigel and Shaz, were presented a cheque for £1,000 by the ACS chief executive, James Lowman, for their dedication and commitment to improving the local community. The husband and wife team have helped improve the community of West Earlham, where their stores are based, by becoming involved with influential organisations. Nigel is the founder and Chairman of West Earlham Trade association, which has organised local fun fairs and secured over £100,000 of Government funding for a new CCTV system, benches and awnings to the shopping parade. He and his wife are trustees of the West Norwich Partnership, he chairs Buy Local (Norfolk) Ltd and is a member of the Biz/Fizz advice panel, which offers advice to start-up businesses.
Nigel Dowdney, owner of Red Orange supermarket in West Earlham comments; “It’s important for the retailer to be seen as being part of the local community. It is an invaluable way of developing strong links with the community. We have worked exceptionally hard and the award is a testament to the effort we have put into developing the local community through our businesses.
“We are continuously developing the local area and we are also hosting another summer fair on 16th July,” added Nigel. “All of the hard work has definitely been worthwhile and has made a significant difference to the local community, people now have pride in West Earlham and we are extremely proud of that.”
