Local Retailer Donates Money to the County Air Ambulance Trust

24/02/2010

The Nisa Local of Market Square, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, has recently donated over £1,800 to local charity the County Air Ambulance Trust, which will use the funds to improve helicopter access to all key accident and emergency hospitals and trauma centres throughout the region. The donation will help the new Helicopter Emergency Landing Pad (HELP) appeal which has been set up to raise the funds needed to construct these facilities and to ensure that all new helicopters have suitable helipad access to the local hospitals.

The store has been raising money for its local community through the sale of specific products in store and has been able to donate the money raised with the help of Making A Difference – Locally (MADL). The MADL charity was formed in May 2008 with the intention of assisting more than 2,000 independent retailers throughout the UK with raising money for their local communities. The charity works by a specified amount of the cost of certain products promoted instore being allocated to the retailer’s MADL charity fund. For instance, this month for every Pilgrims Choice, Farmhouse Mature Cheese 400g pack purchased in store, 5p of the sale will go into the retailer’s MADL fund to be donated to their chosen charity.

The charity was created by Nisa-Today’s and Costcutter Supermarkets and the stores participating in the scheme are all members of Nisa-Today’s or independent retailers who are part of the Costcutter Supermarkets Group.

In 2008, the Nisa Local had a vote instore to decide which charity should become a beneficiary of the store’s MADL fund. The vast majority of customers decided to donate the monies raised to the County Air Ambulance Trust. Glenys Holdcroft, general manager of G H Bowkett, commented, “Our customers voted overwhelmingly for the County Air Ambulance. As we live in a rural area, in the event of an incident the emergency vehicles have difficulty accessing all of the roads so the County Air Ambulance is vitally important. We are thrilled to have raised over £1,800 and we look forward to raising more funds in the future.”
